ACE Recovery News

Recovery work is continuing, specifically ESN is the next symbol that will be recovered. The delay in ESN is manually tracking down sub account transfers which inflates the number of shares. The difference between BNT and ESN which was recovered using the same process is that BNT had a small quantity of sub account transfers which made it easier to be sorted out. This will be resolved soon and ESN will be the next to be recovered on ACE.

There has been a couple of inquiries concerning our current backup process which I want to take the time to explain given our current circumstances. After examining the public statements of other exchanges where available, we believe we now have the best backup process. We consider this experience a very expensive lesson in having an automated, reliable backup process.

Every hour of every day the ACE database is backed up. The method of backup is performed using mysqldump which produces a plain text file. The file is stored on the ACE server in 2 different formats, plain text and tar/zipped.

The zipped backup file is then sent to another server (2nd server) which is located in another data center. An email is then sent to a monitored email address. Any errors or success is noted immediately. This is an automated process to this point and happens in less than 30 seconds.

Each week (at least once a week, more depending on work that is being done at ACE) the zipped up file is downloaded from the 2nd server to a development site, restored and tested manually.

For those trying to keep score on where we are in recovery:

ESN - finishing up recovery scripts as noted above, restore ESN to ACE
KAU - 95% data recovered, continue recovery work, create recovery scripts, restore KAU to ACE
MAI - data recovered, create recovery scripts, restore MAI to ACE
WJUV - 95% data recovered, continue recovery work, create recovery scripts, restore WJUV to ACE

Please continue to be patient with us as we seek to recover all data necessary to return all traders to full trading status on each company.
